(shared) Solitude
Screen print on aluminum sheet, screen printed zine, and film (forthcoming), 2025.
In CDMX in February 2024, I found roof access in the building I was staying at. I took my headphones up and danced to music that helped me shake off a weird day.
Eventually, I spotted someone a few rooftops away, doing the same thing. We kept moving by ourselves, looking over at each other ever so often. No words exchanged, no physical proximity, just an eventual wave and a smile from afar.
I felt a deep connection to him although I could not see him very clearly.
I wanted to capture this in Brooklyn, where I have always loved spending time on roofs. I asked Elissa Cordero and Ricky Sanchez, two of my yoga teachers and friends, to move in front of a camera operated by David Ryan Aguilar. Ray Yamamoto helped bring the film to life, which we hope to share soon. Special love to emize and Val Maerz for help on set <3
I made screen prints with stills from the film - on aluminum (researching printing on metal), and on paper (which Rebecca Sapeca compiled into zines).
Some stills from the forthcoming film (cinematography/coloring by David Ryan Aguilar), that the screen prints are based on:
